The English ability is lower for the
Grade 1 students than for the pre-primary students. We feel there is an opportunity to make a
larger impact this year with the Grade 1 students by practicing the teaching
methods that work well at the crèche and by giving the students positive
attention.
Our main academic focus with the Grade
1s is on English phonics and math counting, writing numbers, addition, and
subtraction. We plan to give the
students a pretest to gauge their base ability level, as well as a post-test
for each of the learning outcomes to measure their progress.
We seek frequent feedback from the
teachers to see if there has been improvement in each child’s behavior,
motivation, attendance, and academic performance at school.
We also document our lesson plans and
visual aids to potentially share with other crèche programs to expand our reach
and impact.
